Safety
North Star Contracting Inc. is committed to providing a safe workplace environment and to the prevention of accidents and injuries, at all levels of employment. We operate a comprehensive safety program that is continuously improved with a focus on proactive prevention. Safety begins at the top, with complete commitment from the North Star senior management team. We regard the safety of our employees, subcontractors and jobsites to be the most important factor in the operation of our business. As one of the few contractors with an on-staff Certified Safety Officer (CSO), we are a Partner in Injury Reduction with a Certificate of Recognition.
The foundation of our safety program is training. With job specific training in Prime Contractor, First Aid, Safe Trenching Ground Disturbance, Leadership for Safety Excellence, Roadbuilders Safety Training, WHMIS, Confined Space Awareness, Flag Person Training, CSTS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Principles for Health & Safety Management. The safety of each project is addressed with pre start-up assessments and on-going project meetings to continually assess any changes in site safety.
Safety is the shared responsibility of every worker and subcontractor. Working together, we are able to achieve excellence in all aspects of our operation and maintain a safety record that exceeds industry standards. Our safety program includes the following best practices:
- Training and accountability are stressed at all levels of employment.
- All risks can be avoided or controlled to prevent injuries.
- Management is responsible for providing a safe work environment and for ensuring that work is performed safely.
- Each employee is made aware of his or her responsibility for working safely with equal concern for the safety of co-workers.
- Safety excellence can only be achieved through the support and active participation of everyone.
- All employees and subcontractors must accept and comply with North Star’s rules and regulations.
- Any non compliance will not be tolerated.
- We endorse a drug and alcohol free work environment.
