BEARSPAW FEEDER MAIN REPAIR
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The City of Calgary experienced a critical failure with the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, resulting in strict water use restrictions for residents and underscoring the importance of water conservation and infrastructure maintenance. After the emergency repairs, the City identified 21 new locations along the Feeder Main that required urgent attention. Graham was hired as the General Contractor to carry out the pipe encasement repairs along 33 Avenue and 16 Avenue NW. Graham then contracted North Star Contracting to perform excavation around the critical line and assist with the necessary repairs.
PROJECT DETAILS
North Star repaired four of the identified locations along 16 Ave NW, with crews working around the clock to complete the work and ensure that water restrictions could be lifted as quickly as possible. The 1950 pipe needed to be carefully exposed all around, and a trench box was placed to provide a safe working environment. This allowed the crews to install rebar around the pipe and pour concrete to reinforce the feeder main.
